CHAIRMAN SPEECH

Dear Science educators,

The Science Teachers Association of Singapore has much to be proud of. Not least, the staunch and loyal support from the science teachers’ fraternity. We, the members of the 30th Management Committee want to reach out to as many science teachers as we can. We need and appreciate your support.

As the new Chairman it is indeed an honour and privilege to lead our Science Teachers’ Association. My grateful thanks to Mrs Catherine Seah, our immediate ex-Chairman who has in her years of leadership worked tirelessly towards advancing science teaching and learning.

This year we have a staple of exciting events and activities for both teachers and students. Do support our various events, share with us your professional needs and as a community we can create new pathways.

In STAS, we believe collaboration is the key to success. STAS’ focus is on you, our teachers as you also hold the key to our students’ success.

We have close ties with Science Centre Singapore. Our collaborative partnership includes the Shell Singapore Youth Science Festival, the Young Scientist Badge programme, Questa Club and other STAS activities.

We have also set our sights further afield. These include learning journeys to other countries where links are forged with their science associations and institutions. For 2010 we plan to go to Japan in June and if time permit a short journey to nearby Malaysia.

Getting new blood and giving science teachers a platform to come together as a community of practice is our first step. We can only succeed if you come forward!

Take the first step… LEAD. CARE. INSPIRE.
I remain your humble servant

Mrs Nora Teo
